Writer’s block is real, and we writers collectively try to turn a blind eye to it. I have been facing it lately and have been struggling to write long-form content.

This has also declined my writing span.

My recalling says that this happened when I stopped writing for fun. But now, I want to get back on track with everything in the right place.

Writing for work and writing for fun are two different things, one you can’t avoid and one gives you perspective. But in the game of all work and no play I am on the verge of losing my craft.

This feels like drowning. There is nothing more frustrating for a writer than losing the friction in their writing. When they understand that the last sentence is not persuading enough for the readers to go to the next one.

Here it is not an argument of copywriting or content writing. I am looking at writing as a piece of creativity and how engaging it is.

I have been told that I am too good at it, and can ace any writing assignment with little effort. Somehow, I got convinced that I don’t need daily practice to get ahead. This was also true for a long time, but after one year I feel like I stand at where I have started.

I don’t even know whether it is a creative block or if I am out of practice. But the feeling leaves you vulnerable in the moment.

I regret every day, I didn’t write other than work. I wish I could go back in time and get my natural writing rhythm back but that’s not possible.

But it’s never too late to start over.

So here I will get on yet again.

I am going to write, write and write some more to get my writing muscle back and here are the 5 promises I am making to myself to make the greatest writing comeback.

  1. I will read like a maniac

Content consumers are the best content creators. Reading always sparks inspiration and fuels creativity. Medium, LinkedIn, Adage and whatnot, any platform that offers a piece of content I will be there. Let’s not worry about the topic and delve into it.

2. Writers show up

I always remember a greatly written piece and try to match up to it. And the one thing these writers do is show up. Their content is not always looking perfect, but they are writing and publishing. Their fear of not showing up is more than the fear of a content piece failure.

3. Templates always work

After years of writing, we tend to develop a technique and mastering it would set us apart from the rest. Our writing style tells us more about our potential than anything else so become a master of it and give yourself a blueprint to follow.

4. Listing out topic comes handy

This is the hardest part for me, and I bet it is for most of my fellow writers. We creative minds don’t like making lists and nothing is more satisfying than going random. But trust me it’s like putting the pieces together and getting started seems less overwhelming.

5. Now write

Now you are all set, don’t stop. Here’s where you can’t justify skipping writing and keep following discipline more than inspiration. Hit creative block? Start writing about your frustration. Need ideas? Read. There’s always a solution lying around you, you need the eye to see it.

I promise to keep things going with my writing and try to develop a thicker skin for any feedback or criticism coming my way. Expressing things is the beautiful gift we got, and I don’t want to sleep on it.

Keep making art and expressing what’s truly in your heart. This is peace and this is life.

So there’s only one way you can become the writer you will be proud of, and that is by writing.
